This year I decided to go late, very late, arriving in the city at around 4am after dinner and a brief sleep, by this time most of the crowd had dispersed making getting around on foot a lot easier. I managed to make my way from the top end down to Federation Square in 2hrs though in hindsight 4am was a little too late, by 6.00 there was already signs of light. In some ways it was probably a godsend as hanging around Birrarung Marr meant I could get a decent vantage point of the sunrise from a relatively unobstructed open space.
